We're Back!

I started this blog to chronicle our lives as nationwide travelers. I thought it would be very exciting for our friends and family to have a way to keep up with us along our traveling journey. I did not, however, expect that our travels would take us back to a place so near to where we started as soon...

After filling out his Contract in Maine, Troy found an opening for a Physical Therapist position in Waukee, IA. It was November, the Holiday Season was approaching, and by that point we were really missing friends and family. So, we decided to come back to Iowa for a 3-4 month stint. That way, we’d be home for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and a ton of birthdays in the Winter/Spring. In the first couple days that we were back in Iowa, the tiniest little thing happened that made a huge impact on our plans.

My parents live “in the middle of nowhere” – literally. To put into perspective for those who don’t know…my parents live “in the country” of Atalissa; a town where the population is just over 300. Their address technically lists them in Atalissa, but their house is in the West Branch school district, their phone number is from the town of Rochester and their internet comes from the town of Tipton. Oh, and my sister, Katie, and I went to school in Wilton.

So, Troy and I were heading to my parents’ house and along the way, we passed a tiny old man in overalls walking along the street, grinning from ear to ear and waving frantically. We had no idea who he was, and we very quickly realized that he didn't know us either. But, it didn’t matter. He was still happy to see us. And that, my friends, is a true depiction of Iowa. We may not have lobster fresh from the sea at every restaurant. We may not have mountains or oceans. But, we have some AMAZING people who wave and smile at you just because.

While the Des Moines area may not be HOME home, it sure fits the bill that we need right now. Des Moines allows us to be young and adventurous, but close enough that we can drive home for anything. Since we returned, we haven't had to miss baby showers, family get-togethers, holidays or even random nights out with friends. With that being said, we are planning on staying for quite some time and we are even looking to buy a house here soon. More on that to come!

Here are a few pics of things we have done since we returned home!

So, while my blog may not be as exciting as I had once hoped, I have decided to continue writing (if nothing else, it will be my own personal diary). But, to me, there is no reason that life can’t be just as exciting…even in the little ol’ state of Iowa.
